10 Points on US Election Results

Is the US election relevant for people outside the US? Yes!

Should Christians outside the US care about the results of the US election?

Specifically, what about those in Alberta watching the US election? Here are a few things:

1) The US is still the center of the Evangelical movement worldwide. In one result, if harassment ends towards Christian institutions and incentives are introduced to promote their growth, this will be a net benefit to Christians in other countries. If there is another result, and that change doesn’t happen, the center of the Evangelical movement may continue to collapse and compromise.

2) Optimism will go in one of two directions with the election result. Optimism for homosexuality and transsexuality as sacred or optimism for nuclear families, restored and blended families and multigenerational families. This has a global impact, presenting temptations or vindications to the churches.

3) As Megyn Kelly said, the men aren’t doing well. And with one result, men will be further neutered in the culture, whereas a different result will bring a renaissance of American confidence. For folks in other countries, that confidence is a beacon of possibility, even if opportunities in their own country are limited. Christian men in Alberta need encouragement to be leaders in their homes, churches, workplace and culture.

4) One election result could confirm the climate emergency promoters attempts to shut down oil and gas. It will only drive up the price of oil for Alberta heavy crude that the US Gulf needs (unless the Trudeau government shuts down the oil industry!). Another election result may bring tariffs against countries like Canada. It would affect Alberta cattle and grain but not the heavy oil. The only thing that would happen would be the oil price going down due to increased rig counts in the US. Low oil prices are challenging for Alberta’s royalty regime.

5) One result would maintain Canada as a petri dish for experimental social engineering. The Democrat party usually releases state or federal policy 8 months after being implemented by Canadian governments. The other result wouldn’t end all of that. But it would put a more adversarial posture from the US federal government towards social engineering in Canada.

6) One result would put Evangelicals for Harris and Never Trump Evangelicals in positions of influence and safety. The other result would open the door for non-legacy Evangelicals to enter institutions and develop new institutions which may replace legacy ones. This makes Alberta churches’ alignment with older legacy institutions or emerging ones impacted by the election result.

7) The always near, never-arriving federal election in Canada will be affected by the results of the US election. One result will restore a US political ally to the Canadian federal government and assist it in its pursuit of Agenda 2030. The allyship of a Democrat President and Prime Minister Trudeau will not help Trudeau’s own re-election as much. If there is another result, Trudeau will likely do all that he can to attach Trump to Poilievre, with the hope that classic, Canadian anti-Americanism will be multiplied against Trump, so tainting Poilievre, and possibly delivering the unpopular Trudeau from likely defeat.

8) Alberta churches that are growing in spiritual vigor are developing a robust public theology, so they watch with interest what happens in the US. Though Albertans are not affected by the US election in civics, they are affected culturally one way or another. The results are relevant.

9) Being global Christians, Alberta’s believers want to be praying for brothers and sisters in the US, just like we do for those in the UK, France, Zambia, PRC, Iran and more. Political changes have practical implications for our New Covenant family.

10) Overall, the election of Donald Trump as President would be preferrable for Alberta Christians, compared to the victory of Kamala Harris. The presence of Evangelicals in Trump’s team versus the near extinction of them in Harris’ team signals a natural allegiance toward Trump, even by Christians from another country, even for Albertans.

1 Tim 2:1-2 “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
